A Diversity Strategist, Karen Nelson is experienced in working across all organizational units and functional groups in assessing organizational needs and requirements to create diversity action plans. She also has expertise in the creation of corporate diversity councils and affinity groups. She facilitates the deployment of best in class diversity solutions and implements measures to gauge their success. A champion for change related to diversity in partnership with Human Resources, EEO, Training & Development, Business Unit Leaders and the Diversity Council in talent management, recruitment, retention, and employee development, in total, she created NelStar Enterprises in 1994!
Nelson is the former Corporate Diversity Manager for Shaw Industries, a Berkshire Hathaway Company, in Dalton, GA. Shaw is a $6.5 billion flooring company with 30,000 associates worldwide, mostly in the United States. Prior to that, she worked in a similar capacity as the Cultural Diversity Manager for General Electric (GE) Medical Systems in Waukesha, WI for the 10,000 employees in United States, Latin America and Canada.
This member of SHRM, NAAAHR, NAACP, Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and alum of Leadership Dalton as well as Future Milwaukee holds a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry from Bennett College in Greensboro, NC, and is an Executive MBA graduate from the Lubar School of Business Management at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI.
